The Madison area is filled with fairs and festivals all summer long, but luckily there are some family-friendly celebrations happening over the course of Independence Day weekend.
Shorewood Hills Celebration (July 3-4)
Located on the near west side of Madison, the village of Shorewood Hills is having its annual community celebration for the whole family including a parade, water games, food, music, and of course…fireworks!
Arbor Hills Park Parade and Picnic (July 4)
This neighborhood parade consists of bikes and scooters led by a fire truck, followed by a cookout complete with hot dogs and cool refreshments.
Monona Community Festival (July 3-4)
This two-day citywide celebration not only has fireworks, but also food trucks, wine tasting, a hole-in-one contest, carnival rides, team trivia, a classic car show, live music, and more.
Stoughton Fair (July 1-5)This event is a quintessential American summer fair complete with pie eating contests, livestock shows, a petting zoo, live music, and fireworks.
Bucky n Booms (July 4)
A new Independence Day tradition is coming to the Madison lakefront: a free, open-to-the-public festival featuring live music (also see below), family-friendly fun, lake entertainment, food and beverage, and a return of fireworks to downtown Madison.

During the summer, the Wisconsin Memorial Union Terrace overlooking Lake Mendota will have live music, and there is live music on the 4th of July! So grab a few friends, grab a pitcher of Wisconsin beer to share, and listen to the music as sunset falls over the lake before any fireworks start:
