When colder weather settles in (or not), Madison’s museums become an easy win for meeting planners. These welcoming indoor spaces are perfect for group outings, networking breaks, and offsite experiences—and some even offer built-in meeting and event spaces. From inspiring art to local history, Madison’s museums add culture, convenience, and a sense of place to any winter agenda.

 

Madison Museum of Contemporary Art

Otherwise known by its abbreviation, MMoCA is an admission-free contemporary art museum located on the 200 State Street very close to the state capitol and Overture Center of the Arts. This museum is a short few-minute walk from the hotel and hosts traveling exhibitions, its own collections, and special events like the Wisconsin Triennial.

Chazen Museum of Art

Located on the University of Wisconsin Campus, the Chazen is home to the second-largest collection of art in the state of Wisconsin. Like MMoCA, admission to the Chazen is free and it is open to campus and the public daily. Its collection of around 25,000 works covers diverse historical periods, cultures and geographic locations, from ancient Greece, Western Europe and the Soviet Empire to Moghul India, 18th-century Japan and modern Africa.

Madison Children’s Museum

MCM is an award-winning museum located just a few minutes walking-distance from the hotel juust off of the Wisconsin State Capitol Square dedicated to creating programming and exhibits for all ages that are focused on education, fun, and sustainability.

Wisconsin Veteran’s Museum

Located where State Street meets the capitol square and a neighbor of the hotel, the Wisconsin Veteran’s Museum is dedicated to the people of Wisconsin who served in the armed forces and honors and affirms the role of all veterans in shaping Wisconsin military history and that of the nation, and its exhibits reflect this mission.

Wisconsin Historical Museum

Although a new museum and history center is being built at the top of State Street near the capitol square (where the old museum also stood), we can look forward to new, expanded exhibits on Wisconsin’s history in the future. UW Geology Museum

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has several museums, and this is one of them. It is free and open to the public. You can explore Wisconsin’s geological history from how the ice age shaped our state, to fossils, minerals, and even take a look back in time to where volcanoes and oceans were in the badger state.

National Mustard Museum

Located in Middleton, just about a 15-20 minute drive from downtown, The National Mustard Museum holds the world’s largest collection of mustard. It sells a wider variety of quality mustards than anywhere else on the planet, is open 10-5 daily, and admission is free.
